Yogi refused entry in Allahabad: 2 BJP MPs arrested for protesting against ban on Yogi

Allahabad/ Bhadoi, Nov 20 (UNI) BJP MP from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath, was refused entry in Allahabad following protest by a section of the Allahabad University Union leaders amid protest by the BJP in the Sangam city today.
The BJP MP was stopped at Auria in Sant Ravidas nagar district( Bhadoi) on the Varanasi-Allahabad national highway by police and was later forced to go to Varanasi.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Anil Kumar Rai said that orders came from higherups to stop the cavalcade of the BJP MP and not allow him to go to Allahabad. Later after some protest by the BJP activists, Yogi left for Varanasi.
However, talking to reporters here, Yogi Adityanath said that Jungleraj prevails in the state and democratic system is being broken.
" I had been invited to Allahabad University for the inauguration of the Union building but it was the district authority which is dancing to the tunes of ruling party to prevent me from attending the function," he alleged.
However in Allahabad, two BJP MPs Keshwav Prasd Maury from Phulpur and Vinod Sonker from Kaushambi staged a sit-in dharna and they were arrested by police.
The BJP youth wing also burnt the effigy of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and UP government at Balsan roundabout under Georgetown police station. Later police had to resort to mild lathicharge and detained the activists protesting against the ban on the entry of Yogi Adityanath.
Earlier the controversy started after the newly-elected president of Allahabad University Student Union (AUSU), Richa Singh, had announced to not let BJP MP Yogi Adityanath enter university campus terming him a “controversial and communal” leader.
With possibility of clash, the Allahabad district authorities banned the entry of Yogi to Allahabad last night citing clamping of section 144 in the district.
ABVP students leaders of the university had invited the BJP MP as chief guest for inaugurating the AUSU building. The AUSU, in every academic session, organises a formal inauguration of its building.
The AUSU body currently has four members belonging to ABVP on the posts of vice-president, general secretary and cultural secretary. Richa had won president’s post as an independent. Samajwadi Party’s Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha (SCS) had supported her.
Richa, the first women president of the university, opposing the visit of the BJP MP alleged that," Yogi Adiyanath is a controversial leader who speaks on communal lines against Muslims. Here we have Muslim students too in the university. If any riot-like situation occurred after his speech on the campus, who will be responsible? ABVP members invited Adityanath without consulting me and that is against the AUSU constitution.”
She said any educationist or Union minister was supposed to be invited to the event as “Adityanath has no contribution in the field of education”.
Yesterday ,Richa ran a campaign on the campus and in hostels making an appeal to the students to boycott the November 20 event and support her in the protest against Adityanath.
The University authorities tried to intervene into the matter to resolve the issue but a meeting called by the V-C Prof A Satyanarayana concluded after heated arguments between the two groups of AUSU members. University proctor N K Shukla said that AUSU president did not agree with the decision of other union members who have invited Adityanath.
