Yogi launches tree plantation drive from Chitrakoot

Chitrakoot (UP), July 5 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday expressed concern over the decreasing forest cover and warned that there was a need to save natural resources, otherwise it will cost in the form of environmental imbalance and drought.
Launching the plantation drive, Adityanath planted a sapling at Karvi Range in Chitrakoot. He also inaugurated development schemes worth Rs 113 crore in the district. The Chief Minister felicitated nature lover Bhaiyya Lal Yadav with a sapling and distributed certificates to the beneficiaries of the various schemes.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, "We have abandoned our traditional methods of water conservation. As a result, we are bearing the brunt of global warming. Indiscriminate deforestation is the prime cause of this. Our government has planted over 100 crore trees in the state over these five years. We are formulating a strategy to identify trees that are more than 100 years old and recognise them as 'heritage trees'," he said.
