YEAR ENDER CHHATTISGARH TWO RAIPUR

With landslide victory of Congress in assembly elections this time, almost all senior and prominent Congress leaders have been elected as legislators. Election of senior and prominent leaders, however, became a challenge in cabinet formation of new Congress government in the state.
There was hardly any difficulty in picking one out of four top contenders for the post of Chief Minister to head the state. But after being sworn-in as Chief Minister of state, Bhupesh Baghel faced an uphill task of selecting ministers among too many prominent leaders. Although he formed cabinet after much deliberations and efforts, he had to face some challenge emerging out of discontentment among some of those prominent MLAs who were left out of cabinet. Though two other contenders for chief ministerial post-Tamradhwaj Sahu and TS Singhdeo-have got cabinet berths, another contender Dr Charandas Mahant is still awaiting his adjustment.
According to Constitutional provisions, there can be 13 ministers including chief minister in the state. Because of such provisions, many senior leaders such as Satyanarayan Sharma and Dhanendra Sahu who served as ministers in undivided Madhya Pradesh could not get berths in cabinet this time.
