Yamaha targets 18 pc sportsbike share in Indian market, eyes one lakh sales in 2017

New Delhi, Jan 24(UNI) Aiming to garner 16 to 18 per cent share in India's competitive sports bike market, Japanese two-wheeler giant Yamaha today said that they are planning sales at one lakh sports bikes units in FZ and R series in the current fiscal with an average sales of 8000 to 9000 motor-bikes units in every month.
Yamaha claims that in terms of global market, India was the third-biggest after Indonesia and Vietnam last year.
The company today unveiled its new variant FZ25 priced at Rs 1.19-lakh here in the capital.The new bike boasts of 250cc performance in its motorbike segment.The 200-250 cc segment has competitors like Bajaj Pulsar 200 series, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V to bigger ones like the KTM RC 200 and KTM 200 Duke.
Talking to UNI, Yamaha Motor India, Vice-president, Roy Kurian said, "Last year, we sold 7.86 lakh units at a growth of 32 per cent from the previous year. This year, we are targeting a total sale of one lakh units in sports bike segments to clock 18 per cent market share in India."
"According to our records the company's sales have soared from 2 lakh units this year from 1.9 lakh units in 2016. Our exports to neighboring countries include Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka ongoing with South America", added Mr Roy Kurian.
The company also said that initially demonetisation had hit their market but later they recovered.
