Dwelling upon the challenge of climate change, Mr Modi said glaciers were retreating and extreme weather conditions were being experienced the world over. "The question is what we can do together. Everyone talks about reducing carbon emission but developing nations are not being offered technologies to tackle this".
He said India has set 2022 as the target date for producing 175 Gigawatt of renewable energy. "In the last three years, we have managed to generate 60 Gigawatts which is one-third of the target set by us".
The Prime Minister, who had played a pivotal role along with French President Emmanuel Macron in forging the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in Paris in 2016, expressed satisfaction that the Alliance has become a reality. He said the first Summit of its member nations will be held in Delhi in March.
