World loses 24 billion tons of fertile soil every year: Guterres

Ankara, Jun 16 (UNI) Desertification, land degradation and drought are major threats to world population and developing countries lose about eight per cent of there GDP due to dry land, the United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has said.
On the eve of World Day to Combat Desertification Mr Guterres, in a video massage, said that world loses 24 billion tons of fertile soil every year. Desertification, land degradation and drought have become major problem and a great part of population suffer due to these. He said that though United Nations Conversation to Combat Desertification came into being 25 years ago much remains to be done. Due to dry land developing countries lose eight percent of their GDP.
