Manchester, Jun 18 (UNI) England captain Eoin Morgan created a new world record for most sixes in an One-Day International (ODI) innings with an astonishing display in the World Cup match here on Tuesday against Afghanistan.
Morgan slammed 17 sixes in his 148 runs innings off 71 balls.
The left-handed batsman went past Rohit Sharma, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle in terms of most sixes in an ODI innings. The record was held by these three cricketers jointly with 16 sixes.
England also broke the record for most number of sixes by a team in an ODI match with 25 sixes. They broke their own record of 24 sixes against West Indies in Grenada this year.
Riding on Eoin Morgan's scintillating 148, Jonny Bairstow (90) and Joe Root (88), England posted a mammoth total of 397 runs in the World Cup match against Afghanistan.
