World Boxing C'ship: Mary Kom loses to Cakiroglu, settles for historic bronze

Ulan-Ude Russia, Oct 12 (UNI) Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom (51kg) was forced to settle for bronze after she lost her semi-final bout 1-4 against second seed Busenaz Cakiroglu, at the AIBA Women's World Championships on Saturday.
The Turkish boxer landed some powerful punches to beat the Indian superstar. The European champion Cakiroglu will now take on Russia's Liliya Aetbaeva in the final on Sunday.
This was Mary's 8th medal at the World Boxing Championships, making her the most successful boxer of all time - male or female - in the competition's history. Mary has won 6 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze so far in her career.
Apart from six world titles, Mary Kom's incredible career is also studded with an Olympic bronze medal (2012), five Asian titles, gold medals at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and many others.
Later in the day, Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Jamuna Boro (54kg) and Manju Rani (48kg) will fight it out against their respective rivals.
Manju will face Thailand's former World Championships bronze medallist Chuthamat Raksat while Jamuna Boro will be up against top seed and former Asian Games bronze medallist Huang Hsiao-Wen of Chinese Taipei.
Lovlina Borgohain's opponent is China's Yang Liu, who shocked top seed Chen Nien-Chin in the quarters.
