Woman fights armed Naxals to save hubby

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), Feb 6 (UNI) Violence and poignancy share a morbid bond and oft resemble grim siblings especially in the context of Left-wing extremism-affected and blood-bespattered Bastar division that unfortunately spawns many tearful tales – the instant one being of a wife who, despite being unarmed, courageously took on the rebels who targeted her husband but ultimately could not save her spouse from the jaws of death.

Additional SP Chandrakant confirmed on Monday that the opposition BJP’s Usur Block President Neelkanth Kakem – who had been occupying the post for one-and-a-half decades – reached his in-laws’ village Penkram on Sunday for attending a wedding. Penkram is located within an insurgency-affected area and three Maoists were already present in disguise. Kakem was targeted with an axe and a knife as he was suspected of being an informer. With utter disregard for personal safety, Lalita plunged into the fray to save her hubby and was injured in the process. As the couple’s three minor children watched thunderstruck, their father was cold-bloodedly murdered in front of their very eyes.
