With return of heavy rainfall, excess water is being released towards Jayakwadi dam

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 23 (UNI) Following the return of heavy rainfall in catchment areas of upstream dams in Nashik district, excess water is being released towards Jayakwadi dam -- one of the biggest dams in the district, authorities of irrigation said on Wednesday.
According to official sources, in view of inflow of 48,455 cusecs per second from upstream dams into Jayakwadi and the dam which was already filled up 96.36 per cent, the authorities of dam opened 18 sluice gates of dam and releasing 66.024 cusecs per second into downstream of river Godavari resulting into the flood-like situation that has emerged in several villages situated at the bay of river and several hectors lands come under flood water in Jalna, Beed, Parbhani and Nanded districts of the region.
Jayakwadi having a capacity of 102 TMC and supply water to above 250 villages, Aurangabad, Jalna cities and three industrial estates and near about irrigation of 1.85 lakh Hector's lands in these districts of Marathwada region.
While the rain wreaked havoc across in the all most districts in the Marathwada region, affecting normal life as well as damaging Kharif crops which were ready for harvesting damaged due to waterlogging in fields.

The district administrations directed to conduct panchanama (registration) of the damaged crops and submit to the state government as soon as possible in the region, sources indicated.

All the major irrigation projects except one or two out of 11 in the region filled up of cent per cent and some of them overflowing.
