New Delhi, Jan 20 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government, over it's decision to rename Allahabad as Prayagraj.
A Supreme Court Bench, headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde, issued notice to the state government on a plea, challenging the High Court order on the matter.
In it's order dated February 26, 2019, the Allahabad High Court had quashed the petition filed by Lawyer Shadan Farasat, stating that a mere name change of the city will not affect the public interest.
The High Court had also said that it cannot interfere with the policy decision of the government.
