Kolkata, Nov 13(UNI) West Bengal will soon have a complete picture of its irrigation resources as the Water Resources Investigation and Development (WRID) Department is preparing to conduct a minor irrigation census (MIC).
For the first time, the census will take account of the surface waterbodies such as small water pools, a senior official of the WRID Department has informed. Around 25-30 types of waterbodies will be included in the census, he said. Tube wells will be also counted in the census as source of irrigation, he added.
The rationale behind this census is gathering concise data for logical planning and effective use of water for irrigation, the official said.
