Weather brings respite to Himachal; MeT predicts hailstorm

Shimla, Feb 28 (UNI) As the cold wave continues to grip Himachal for the past one week, Thursday's sunny weather brought respite to the state, with the mercury dipping below freezing point and many degrees recorded below normal temperature.
Met Office forecast rain or snowfall from March 2 onwards and warning of heavy hailstorm in few parts of Mid and high reaches. Weather would be mainly dry in next 24 hrs and light rain or snowfall on high reaches.
As the people came out of their home on Thursday they got respite from cold weather and recent snowfall. Many roads, power and telecom services couldn't resume in snowbound areas as there are snow on the road.
Met office said that it had recorded about 15 cm snowfall at Dalhousie in Chamba and Bijahi in Mandi, Janjehli-10 cm, Jubbal in Shimla seven, Kalpa in Kinnaur five cm, Shimla 4 cm , Mashobra two cm and Manali-one cm.
Bangana in Una & Gohar in Mandi 25 mm each rain, Jogindernagar 10 mm, Rampur in Shimla 9 mm Kumarsen & Pandoh in Mandi 8 mm each, Mandi & Sangrah-7 mm each, Baijnath- six mm. Kotkhai five cm, Sundernagar, Dharampur, Hamirpur & Bhuntar in Kullu each and Kasauli in Solan three mm.
Minimum Temperature of Keylong minus 13 degree Celsius and six degrees below normal, Kalpa minus 7.6 degrees, Kufri minus 6.5 degrees, Manali 3.6 degrees, Shimla minus two degrees , Solan minus 0.5 degrees, Sundernagar 0.9 degrees, Chamba 1.9 degrees, Dharmshala 2.4 degrees, Kangra 2.6 degrees, Una 2.8 degrees, Bhuntar 3.4 degrees, Mandi and Hamirpur 3.8 degrees, Bilaspur four and Nahan in Sirmaur 4.9 degrees respectively.

"An ASI of BSF was injured on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday after India and Pakistan exchanged firing in forward area of Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district," official sources here said.
