Water tanker mafia working under AAP Govt's patronage in Delhi: Lekhi

Water tanker mafia working under AAP Govt's patronage in Delhi: Lekhi

New Delhi, 28 May (UNI) People of Delhi are in distress due to the rising heat and water shortage with an outcry for the most valuable natural resource, New Delhi BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Ms Lekhi alleged that despite the people of the national capital facing such issues, under patronage of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who promised free water, the leaders of his party are running tanker mafia,
Lekhi showing a picture of Vivekananda Camp threw light on the situation stating that because of the scarcity, whenever the water tanker arrives, the people just head towards the tanker without maintaining social distancing in these times.
Pointing out at the constituency of AAP's Raghav Chadha who is also the Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman, Ms Lekhi said that even in his constituency's area Indperpuri, people are longing for water with long ques in the scorching heat.
She further said that there are many such settlements in the New Delhi where people should have got water for free but are not getting it and now people have to pay around Rs 10,000 on a monthly basis to the tanker mafia for the necessary natural resource.
She also accused the Jal Board of diverting water even from many of the posh localities that never faced water shortage, but now these colonies began facing the same problem.
Ms Lekhi said that for the last 40-50 days the people of Delhi have been drinking water from water tankers.
Where people had to get water for free, but, today the condition is that the people are buying water for survival. Shortage of pipes with the Delhi Jal Board, selling the water in economically weaker areas, not providing water to taxpayers, clearly shows faulty arrangements of the Board, she added.
She further demanded Delhi CM to break his silence and tell what action the Delhi government is taking against these tanker mafias and doing about the situation.
'In 2015 itself, to resolve the shortage of water, I myself provided 1200 crore funds from the Central Government to the Delhi Government, till date no account of that money was given nor was it informed in which area the new pipeline was installed.' Lekhi said.
