War veterans warn against army's politicisation, call surgical strikes 'routine action' hyped by Modi govt

Chandigarh, Dec 7 (UNI) The September 2016 'Surgical Strikes' were unnecessarily hyped by the Centre to garner political mileage, endangering India’s future defence cross border responses to inflict enemy damage, according to several war veterans.
Describing the retributive actions across the Line of Control (LoC) as 'business as usual' for the Forces, decorated war veterans on Friday, during a panel discussion on the first day of MLF 2018, flayed the central government for politicisation of the Army's operational successes to further their political ends.
During the discussion on 'Role of Cross-Border Operations and Surgical Strikes', noted defence commentator Colonel (Retd) Ajai Shukla cautioned against the recent trend to colour military achievements with political motives. He also underlined the need to maintain operational decency and sanctity of the operations undertaken by the defence forces.

Uttarakhand records 24 83 pc voter turnout till 11 am

Dehradun, Apr 19 (UNI) Uttarakhand has witnessed an average voter turnout of 24.83 per cent for five Lok Sabha seats till 11am on Friday,
Excluding the Nainital constituency, voting percentages in the other four constituencies have surpassed those of the 2019 elections within the same timeframe, which recorded 23.59 per cent turnout by Friday midday.
