War of words between BJP and TMC over DVC’s water release

Kolkata, Oct 4 (UNI) A political storm has erupted between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal and the BJP over the release of water from the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accusing the Centre of engineering a “man-made disaster” during the festive season, and the BJP dismissing her allegations as “false and misleading.”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday alleged that the DVC had released 65,000 cusecs of water from the Maithon and Panchet reservoirs without informing the state government, thereby putting millions of lives at risk just as the Durga Puja festivities were concluding.
In a late-night social media post, the CM further claimed that by evening, the cumulative release had risen to nearly 1,50,000 cusecs, warning that this unilateral decision by the Central agency could flood large parts of south Bengal.
