Ahmedabad, Dec 10 (UNI) Famous ex-shuttler and coach of super-star badminton players Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap, Pullela Gopichand on Monday said inspired by the exploits of Kapil Dev's World Cup winning Indian Squad in 1983, he like millions of other inspired kids of that generation, wanted to play cricket but 'luck' and a small logistical issue ensured that he picked up badminton instead.
Gopichand (45), who has also received Arjuna and Dronacharya awards for his extra-ordinary performance as a shuttler and badminton coach revealed it in his address during the reunion celebrations of IIMA’s batch of 1989.
He was invited to speak at IIM Ahmedabad on sports, nutrition, health and the requirement of a comprehensive emphasis on developing coaching facilities for various sports in India.
