Wabag to tap desalination market

Mumbai, Jan 19 (UNI) Betting big on the growing emphasis on green hydrogen production, water treatment solutions provider Va Tech Wabag plans to tap the potential market even as it is exploring opportunities in Latin America, a company official said.
The company is focusing on increasing the share of international contracts in its order book to grow from the current 50 per cent to over 60 per cent in the near future.
"Based on our recent experience, there is another big avenue which is opening up for the desalination market and that is green hydrogen. Green hydrogen will require a lot of water. A majority of the projects are coming up in coastal or desert areas," senior company official Rajneesh Chopra told reporters here.
"This is going to be a catalyst in driving our growth in line with the growth of our focus on the desalination water market," Chopra added.
He said the company sees a good growth potential for desalination projects, where it has a lot of expertise, in markets like India and the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia and Egypt, over the next five years.
According to recent reports, over 620 million cubic meters of water will be required by 2040 considering the current pipeline of projects to produce 30 million tonne of hydrogen per year. This means an additional desalination market needs to be created.
