New Delhi, May 20 (UNI) Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi on Monday said that it was extremely erroneous to spread reports that by acting in the biopic 'Narendra Modi' he had made the Prime Minister a hero.
"It is extremely erroneous to suggest that I made a hero out of Mr Modi in the biopic. The fact of the matter is we made a film on him because he is already a hero," Vivek told UNI here.
Portraying, Vivek said, the role of chief protagonist in the film had left a lasting impress on him.
"I have been stating that crores of Indians had made Modi popular," he said.
The launch of the biopic was resisted by opposition parties on the eve of the 17th Lok Sabha elections and it was deferred; it was screened here on Monday evening in the presence of the film star and a galaxy of Central ministers and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.
A two-hour-long film cannot portray the entire life and works of the Prime Minister, Vivek said.
"My film was never propaganda but there was huge propaganda against my film. That was sad," he said.
Vivek lashed out at Opposition parties and asserted,"those who criticised me and opposed our film perhaps they do not have confidence in their own work and politics.'
Meanwhile, Vivek Oberoi’s tweet on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan erupted into a controversy as National Commission for Women (NCW) sent a legal notice to to the actor for his tweet, in which he shared a meme that compares Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s relationships to the stages of polling.
Terming the post ‘misogynistic’, the NCW demanded an explanation from the actor.
“The post made is extremely offensive, unethical and shows disrespect towards the dignity and respect of women in general,” the notice reads.
NCW chairperson, Rekha Sharma said, "We would like him (Vivek Oberoi) to apologise on social media & personally also to the person concerned. If he doesn't do, we will see what legal action can we take against him. We will be talking to Twitter to remove that tweet immediately."
Vivek Oberoi took to Twitter to share a meme that compares Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's relationships to the stages of polling.
The meme was a collage of three pictures -- one that shows Aishwarya with Salman Khan, another that shows Aishwarya with Vivek, and a third that shows Aishwarya with Abhishek Bachchan.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal also termed Vivek Oberoi’s tweet as 'crass' and 'disgusting'.
In a tweet, Ms Maliwal said, 'It is hardly hilarious. It's crass, disgusting and reveals the sick mentality of its 'creator'@vivekoberoi. Evident that the man lacks everything - political as well as life skills.'
The meme created by a Twitter user was shared by Vivek on his official handle.
