Manchester, Jun 27 (UNI) Virat Kohli 72 off 82 (8 fours), MS Dhoni unbeaten 56 off 61 (3 fours, 2 sixes) and K L Rahul 48 off 64 helped India reach a challenging 268/7 in 50 overs against West Indies in the ICC Cricket World Cup on Thursday.
Skipper Virat Kohli created another milestone in his illustrous career becoming the fastest batsmen to score 20,000 runs in just 417 innings surpassing cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara's 453 innings each against West Indies here.
Kohli who has been consistent in this World Cup completed his fourth consecutive half century (72) in the 28th over also reached 53rd half century from 224 innings in the ODIs.
Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat with openers K L Rahul and Rohit Sharma added 29 runs.
India received a major jolt after Rohit Sharma lost his wicket to Roach caught behind by wicket-keeper Shai hope in the 6th over. India's first wicket fell at 29/1. Rohit 18 off 23 (1 four, 1 six).
With Rohit parting Kohli and K L Rahul played a sensible innings putting in 69 runs for second wicket, however Rahul who was heading towards his half century fell two runs short before going down to Holder in 21st over with India losing their second wicket at 98.
Rahul 48 came in 64 balls (6 fours). India's 100 came up in 22nd over after losing two wickets of openers Rohit Sharma and K L Rahul.
With Rahul's exit Kohli and Vijay Shankar put 28 runs for third wicket, but Roach broke the partnership claiming his second wicket sending Shankar at 14 off 19 (3 fours). India were 126/3.
With Shankar's loss, Kedar Jadhav stayed at the crease for a short period before Roach picking his third wicket in 29th over.
In the 34th over West Indies wicket-keeper Shai Hope missed two chances to stump Dhoni at 8, which proved too costly for Windies and then in 48th over Oshane Thomas dropped Dhoni at 38.
India lost its fourth wicket at 140. Jadhav scored 7 off 10 (1 four). After Jadhav M S Dhoni came and along with Kohli went on to bring 40 run stand for fifth wicket with partnership going strong between the duo, however it was Holder who took crucial wicket of Kohli his second wicket in 39th over. Kohli 72 came in 82 balls (8 fours).
In 42nd over 200 run partnership came bewteen Hardik Pandya and Dhoni. The duo also went on to add another excellent partnership of 70 runs for 6th wicket.
In the 49th over Cottrell picked two quick wickets of Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami. Pandya quick fired 46 off 38 balls (5 fours) falling 4 runs short of half century. Shami went down at 0.
Dhoni also playing his part contributed completing his half century (50) in fourth ball of the last over smashing Thomas for four and then in the last ball hit Thomas for six bringing his 56 off 61 (3 fours, 2 sixes). Both Dhoni and Kuldeep Yadav remained unbeaten.
Kemar Roach 3/36, Jason Holder 2/33, Cottrell 2/50 were the wicket takers for West Indies.
