Violence left more than 100 people hurt

Agartala, May 24 (UNI) Police made extra deployment across the state last night following report of post result violence, which left more than a hundred people including a large number of BJP cadres hospitalized.
According to report, as many as 55 counting agents of CPI (M) were allegedly manhandled by the ruling party workers mostly in South Tripura, Sepahijala, West Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai and North Tripura since yesterday afternoon with the victory of BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP alleged as many as 12 workers of their party were beaten up by CPI (M) cadres, as part of it’s strategy to create terror environment in the state. A few houses and shops were gutted in Jirania and Teliamura of West Tripura while a 80-year-old lady was attacked in her house in Karailong area along National highway.
The trauma centre of Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) has treated at least 22 persons last night including a stabbed person. More than 17 road traffic accidents were reported in the state since yesterday afternoon when jubilant youths went into celebration mode.
Police officials said with the direction of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) security arrangement was enhanced before the counting. However, during and after counting a few incidents were reported where policemen had also assaulted and specific cases were registered against the criminals.
“Security surveillance in all the sensitive areas were increased in manifolds besides, normal patrolling duty,” said a senior police official adding that the nature of incidents indicated that it was not political rather reflected the personal grasps. However, all measures have been taken to maintain peace.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb however, urged the people not to disturb peace.
