Video of woman being beaten goes viral, two policemen suspended

Balrampur, May 22 (UNI) Two policemen were suspended after a video of a woman being beaten mercilessly went viral on social media in the presence of the cops in the Rehra Bazar area of this Uttar Pradesh district, police sources said on Friday.
Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma here said that a video of a woman being beaten in the Rehra Bazar area went viral on Twitter. Taking the matter into cognizance, a case has been registered against six people including the woman's husband.
The SP said that during the probe, it was revealed that UP 112 vehicle was stationed at the time of the incident and the policemen present there did not try to intervene. Owing to the same, two policemen deployed at UP 112 have been suspended with immediate effect.
Mr Verma said the woman was being thrashed owing to some dispute by the family members on the roadside. Four people have been arrested in connection with the case and efforts are on to arrest two more people.

War against COVID-19: MP’s grim body count rises to 929

Bhopal, Aug 5 (UNI) The fatality figure owing to the ‘millennium scourge’ mounted to 929 on Wednesday in Madhya Pradesh where 17 fresh demises – the maximum five occurred in this district – were reported even as the infected tally touched 35,734 with 652 more sufferers being detected during analysis of 12,318 samples.
A Health Services Directorate bulletin issued tonight pegged the number of active cases at 8,741. Two deaths each were recorded in Indore in Rewa districts; one each in Ratlam, Rajgarh, Jabalpur, Shivpuri, Damoh, Katni, Agar Malwa and Sagar. This district spawned the highest 150 new instances thereby taking its aggregate to 7,115, including 197 dead; 4,658 cured – 186 on this very day. Bhopal also has the dubious distinction of having the highest 2,260 non-passive patients.
