Veteran freedom fighter Mohan Ranade passes away

Panaji, Jun 25 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter Mohan Ranade passed away at a hospital in Pune in Maharashtra on Tuesday.
He was 90. Ranade was one of the most prominent figures in Goa Liberation Movement. He had been ill for some time and was undergoing treatment in Pune.
Ranade, who was born in Sangli, Maharashtra, was arrested by Portuguese Police in 1995 and spent 14 years in prison. After liberation of Goa, he was released in 1969. Born in 1929, the freedom fighter was inspired by leaders like Ganesh Damodar Savarkar and Vinay Damodar Savarkar. Ranade, who was lawyer by profession, was awarded Padma Shri in 2001 and Sangli Bhushan in 2006.
