Chennai, Apr 1 (UNI) Veteran filmmaker C V Rajendran, who helmed blockbusters featuring legendry Sivaji Ganesan in films like 'Galatta Kalyanam', 'Sumathi En Sundari' and 'Raja' died here this morning.
He was 81.
He is survived by his wife Janaki Rajendran, a son and a daughter.
Known for his hilarious entertainers, Rajendran was veteran director Sridhar's cousin.
He started his career working as assistant to Sridhar in the comedy film 'Kadhalikka Neramillai'.
Rajendran’s maiden directorial venture was 'Anubhavam Pudhumai'.
But it was the rib-tickling comedy film 'Galatta Kalyanam', featuring Sivaji Ganesan and Jayalalithaa that brought him name and fame.
The movie was scripted by Sridhar, whom Rajendran always calls him as his ‘Guru’.
Known for his close association with Sivaji Ganesan, Rajendran has directed over 20 films starring the thespian in the lead role. Interestingly Rajendran introduced Sivaji's son Prabhu as a hero in the movie 'Sangili'.
Rajendran also shared a good rapport with writer Chitralaya Gopu and the duo produced several blockbusters.
He also produced a couple of movies, including 'Once More' featuring Sivaji Ganesan and 'Vietnam Colony' featuring Prabhu.
His last directorial venture was 'Chinnapadas' which starred Sathyaraj in the lead, in the year 1989.
