Ventilator purchase smells of scam : Congress

New Delhi, Jul 5 (UNI) The Congress has accused the government of indulging in a scam related to the purchase of ventilators and fooling the people of the country amid the pandemic situation.
Addressing the press here , Congress spokesman Gourav Vallabh said the confirmed cases have reached past 6.7 lakhs in the country and there has been a record rise in the number of fresh deaths in the past 24 hours, while the death toll due to the disease has reached close to 20000 mark.
Mr Vallabh questioned," that the government had ordered for 40,000 ventilators, and many companies through
PM Cares Fund had contributed money , have the same been purchased using this money?"
He further said whenever the government goes for such large scale buying it goes for open tendering and competitive bidding process , was the same thing done this time prior giving the orders , he asked.
The people of the country must be told whether such tenders were called in for this purchase, Vallabh said.
The Congress leader further put up a sharp question saying that a ventilator can be purchased in the country for about Rs 1.5 lakhs, and added that , why was the purchase made for Rs 4 lakh per ventilator.
He also claimed that the panel of government doctors and other doctors have said the ventilators procured under this by a supplier are not fit for use, and further questioned as to why was the government compromising on the health of lakhs of patients in such a crucial time with such sub-standard equipment.
