Venkaiah Naidu to be NDA Vice-Presidential candidate

New Delhi, Jul 17 (UNI) The ruling NDA today announced Mr Venkaiah Naidu, a senior member of the Narendra Modi government, as its candidate for the post of Vice-President, elections for which will be held on August 5.
Mr Naidu's name was announced by BJP chief Amit Shah.
Mr Naidu, who is the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, was chosen by the BJP after its Parliamentary Board meeting which was presided here this evening by the Prime Minister.
The 68-year-old senior BJP leader will now be pitted against Dr Gopal Krishna Gandhi, the joint Opposition candidate.
Mr Naidu who belongs to Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, represents Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha.
He will be filing his nomination tomorrow, which is the last date of submitting papers for contesting the polls.
