VAT on petroleum products in Haryana lowest compared to other states : Minister

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) Haryana Excise and Taxation Minister Captain Abhimanyu, said on Saturday that Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products in the state is the lowest as compared to other states.

Speaking to media persons after the National Conclave on GST organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi, he said even after other states cut VAT by five per cent, Haryana would still be charging the least amount of VAT on petroleum products.

He said GST would complete a comfortable transit phase by the end of the current financial year and efforts would be made to further develop the format next year. In the first quarter, implementation of GST in the state has been extremely satisfactory. About 35 per cent new dealers have been connected and 90 per cent returns were filed in the month of July.

The main aim of GST is to reach the masses and the industrial sector would have to play a key role in achieving the objective. Capt Abhimanyu hoped the industrial sector would do its job well to provide the benefit of GST to the masses and consumers.

Important decisions have been taken at the 22nd meeting of the GST Council which included reduction in tax rates on 27 items. Besides, directive has been issued to simplify the process to solve the problems of exporters, small enterprises and traders, he added.
