Vaccine could take years to prove its efficacy among different age groups: CCMB Director

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (UNI) Cautioning that an ‘effective’ vaccine could be many months or years away, City-based CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Director Rakesh Mishra on Thursday stated that all should be prepared to fight this pandemic without a vaccine by wearing face mask, maintaining social distancing and practicing hand hygiene.
Stressing the importance of preventive measures including wearing masks and consumption of immunity-boosting food products, Dr Mishra said that any vaccine’s efficacy could only be determined over a course of time of several months or a couple of years because no one can predict how effective it could be to people of different age groups.
It is only after six months or a year, we can claim how the vaccine has functioned, he said that more importantly reach the length and breadth of the country.
