Utilise funds to make North Karnataka Districts Free from Open Defection by Oct: Minister

Kalaburagi, July 17 (UNI) Karnataka Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Krishna Byre Gowda on Tuesday directed the officials to utilise funds under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan for construction of toilets to declare all the districts in the region are Free from Open defecation by October 2, 2018.
Addressing a press conference here. he said that Yadgir, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Bidar, and Vijayapura have fared poorly in construction of individual household toilets under the programme.
The Minister said that officials must ensure effective use of funds for construction of household toilets to make their districts free of open defecation. Last year, the State government had declared 76 per cent of the rural population as not dependent on open defecation. The NDA government at the Centre launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on Gandhi Jayanti three
years ago to free the country of open defecation.
