Washington, Feb 16 (UNI) Five people were killed and as many policemen injured in a shooting in the US State of Illinois, late on Friday night.
US Police said the incident took place on the outskirts of Aurora, in Illinois, in the center of the country.
The attacker, a 45-year-old man named Gary Martin, was killed by the police after shooting several employees as well as officers who rushed to the Henry Pratt Co. warehouse after reports of gunfire Aurora Police Chief Kristin Zimen confirmed in a report in Washington post.
Police said the shooting occurred for about an hour.
Aurora's account on Twitter said in a tweet that the area is still closed because of the accident.
The police also said that the company had fired Martin on Friday before the shooting, police said.
Five wounded officers were taken to local hospitals, two of whom were transferred to trauma centers, the police added.
United states President Donald Trump has also offered heartfelt condolences to the victims.
"Great job by law enforcement in Aurora, Illinois. Heartfelt condolences to all of the victims and their families. America is with you!", Trump tweeted.
United States first Hindu Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard also expressed her condolences.
"Our aloha, respect & love to those hurt or killed, including 5 police officers, in Aurora, IL. We are grateful to those in law enforcement risking their lives to protect others. But condolences & gratitude fall short. When we care, we take action.", she said in a tweet.
