US-Israel-Iran war disrupts grape exports from Nashik

Nashik, March 12 (UNI) The US-Israel-Iran war has disrupted Indian exports, leading to major financial losses for Indian farmers as well. Four containers of grapes that left Nashik for Dubai have returned to Niphad in Maharashtra’s Nashik district. These containers, each filled with 13 metric tons of grapes, have had to be unloaded at the Sangle Agro Process cold storage in Niphad taluka.
Shipping companies have imposed war risk charges, which have increased the cost of transportation significantly. Since grapes are a perishable fruit, they need to reach customers on time. Exporter Akshay Sangle has expressed fear that the goods will spoil due to this delay.
The return of the containers is causing a loss of Rs 2 lakhs per container, according to Akshay Sangle of the cold storage. The question before them is where to store the returned goods again, how to provide space for the new arrivals, and where to sell the grapes now. Along with this, the exporters and cold storage owners are facing a double crisis due to the additional burden of labour costs, electricity bills, and transportation.
Nashik district is a world leader in grape production. Every year, thousands of tons of grapes are exported from here to Europe and Gulf countries. However, due to unseasonal rains last year, production had already decreased by 60-70%. Now, while farmers are recovering, the war situation has added to their difficulties.
