Urban Affairs Minister Puri flags challenges of urbanisation

New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday highlighted the government's efforts to build inclusive cities in India through flagship programmes such as Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Housing for All and Smart Cities Mission.

Addressing media professionals at the conclusion of the Urban Journalism Academy organised by the UN Information Centre and UN Habitat, he spoke about the new urban agenda and the challenges of urbanisation, particularly to meet by 2022 the target of building 11 million homes .
The Academy was organised as a backgrounder for the World Urban Forum 9 to be held from February 7-13 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More than 40 senior and middle level journalists from across the country participated in the two-day event.
The Academy covered the five key pillars of the New Urban Agenda namely, housing, climate change action, sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience.
