Rae Bareli (UP), Feb 4 (UNI) A Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and one more person were arrested for intimidating a witness in a murder case, demanding extortion and attempt to murder, police sources said here on Saturday.
Police sources said SP leader RP Yadav, who contested assembly elections held last year, was arrested from Indira Nagar locality of the city late on Friday night. "On January 10 one Raj Kumari, who is a witness in the Aditya Singh murder case which took place in 2019 had accused RP Yadav and some other persons of attempting to murder her and demanding extortion," they said.
Police sources said Raj Kumari had claimed that on the date of the incident RP Yadav along with some people came to her house around 11 pm and threatened her not to testify in the court, demanded Rs 10 lakh as extortion money and attempted to kill her. "On the complaint of Raj Kumari a case was lodged against three named and 8 to 9 unidentified persons," they said.
Police sources said initially Surya Bhan Singh and Pratap Abhitej were arrested by the police. "During investigation four more names came to fore of which Surendra, a resident of Shivgarh, was arrested and sent to jail. After investigation SP leader RP Yadav and one Harshit were arrested late on Friday night," they said.
Notably, Yadav contested assembly election from Rae Bareli Sadar seat as SP candidate last year and got second position.
