Lucknow/Hathras, Oct 7(UNI) Uttar Pradesh government handed over the Hathras gang-rape and murder case to the CBI on Wednesday.
Official sources here said that all the FIRs related to the case have been transferred to the premier investigating agency of CBI.
The UP government had recommended CBI probe on Saturday last and the letter to the Union Home ministry was sent immediately thereafter.
However, the CBI took over the case on Tuesday after the matter came in hearing before the Supreme court and the UP government suggested that the apex court could monitor the investigation of the CBI.
But on the other hand, the family of the victim have opposed the CBI probe and have demanded a judicial investigation with protesting over the UP government's suggestion for Narco test of the family of the victim, accused and even of the policemen.
Though the CBI has taken over the case but the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in the case was underway and now the government has extended its term for another ten days.
The SIT was set up on September 30 with giving a week time to submit its report.
The SIT, headed by Home Secretary Bhagwan Swarup and members -- IG Chandra Prakash and PAC Commandant Poonam, have submitted their preliminary report, on which the government had suspended five policemen, including the Superintendent of police (SP).
It had already visited the spot and had recorded the versions of the victim's family, policemen and even of the accused family .
All the four accused were also interrogated in the Aligarh jail.
Mr Adityanath had already directed for trial of the case in a fast-track court.
