Lucknow, May 23(UNI) A record 13.54 lakh migrant workers have returned to Uttar Pradesh through 1,018 Shramik special trains so far, claimed the state government on Saturday.
UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the officials to prepare job cards for the migrants along with their skills so that they can get a job in the state soon.
"We have made arrangements for free travel of the migrant workers from anywhere in the country and till date 13.54 lakh have arrived back by 1,018 trains. In next 48 hours 178 trains are expected to come to the state" confirmed state additional Chief Secretary, Home Awnish Awasthi here on Saturday .
He said that the government has become strict with regards the migrants about their home quarantine after reports surfaced about rise in COVID cases among hundreds of these returning workers.
"We have pasted flyers in from of the houses of migrants who are in quarantine and local people have been asked to monitor that these people don't venture out of there houses," he said.
Giving details of the Shramik special trains, Mr Awasthi said a record 163 trains reached Gorakhpur station ferrying over 2 lakh migrants. Besides 51 railway stations are accommodating these special trains. The maximum number of 397 trains came from Gujarat, followed by 200 from Maharashtra, 171 from Punjab, 59 from Delhi and 36 from Karnataka.
Besides railways are operating several trains for the migrants within the state to ferry them from one part of the state to another, he said .
