UP govt employees protest Sambhal district authorites ban on informal dress during office time

Sambhal, Jun 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government employees are up in their arms and have threatened to launch an agitation over the latest order of the district district magistrate (DM) of Sambhal banning informal dressing like jeans and t-shirts at government offices during their duties.
The DM said that the decision was taken as informal dresses make the employees "non-serious about their work". A fine of Rs 500 will be imposed on those violating the new dress code.
During an inspection on Thursday, when DM N K S Chauhan had found employees at the collectorate were wearing jeans and T-shirt, he remarked that they "appeared non-serious about their work because of their attire". The officer then decided to make it mandatory for employees to wear formal clothing during office hours in the district. Formal wear includes shirts and trousers as well as traditional clothing, officials said.
