UP first state to endorse one nation one election

Lucknow, Jun 19 (UNI) Even as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meeting with the presidents of all political parties on Wednesday to evolve a consensus on the idea of one nation one election, Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country to have already endorsed the idea a year ago in June 2018.
UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath had set up an electoral reforms committee headed by the health minister Sidharth Nath Singh in 2018. The committee had endorsed the demand for simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The practice was prevalent till 1967.
The committee also included former chief information commissioner Vijay Sharma, former chief electoral officer of UP Anuj Bishnoi and Professor Balraj Chauhan, former VC of Ram Manohar Lohia Law University.

Dehradun, Apr 19 (UNI) Uttarakhand has witnessed an average voter turnout of 24.83 per cent for five Lok Sabha seats till 11am on Friday,
Excluding the Nainital constituency, voting percentages in the other four constituencies have surpassed those of the 2019 elections within the same timeframe, which recorded 23.59 per cent turnout by Friday midday.
