Lucknow, Mar 31 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has alerted districts of western parts of the state as several people are suspected to have attended a religious gathering at Delhi's Nizamuddin Markaz, where a few were detected positive for the novel coronavirus.
Additional Chief Secretary of Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi on Tuesday asked all the district officials and police to stay alert and extra vigilant near the state borders.
Several people of Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Sitapur, Bahriach, Saharanpur, Bijnore, Bulandshsr and other districts participated in the Tabligh Jamatis, a religious congregation held at Nizamuddin Markaz early this month.
According to an official report, the state government has issued a list of 157 people of 19 districts in the state who had attended the religious gathering in the national capital.
State DGP office has sent the list of the people to concerned districts, according to which the highest number of devotees i e 28 are from Muzaffarnagar and 20 from Lucknow.
The officials have directed the district officials to check these people for any kind of symptoms and send them into isolation with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the religious seminary of Nizamuddin has refuted all the charges saying that they have followed all the norms imposed by the government during the lockdown and even cooperated with the authorities by allowing them to check the health of around 1,000 devotees staying in the premises.
"There were around 2,500 people when the religious congregation commenced, but when government-issued travel ban and lockdown on March 22, since then only 1,000 were left to go to their homes which led to this problem, " the statement issued by the seminary said on Tuesday.
"We had repeatedly asked the authorities to allow us and give facilities to send these people to their homes but there was no response. Instead, the authorities directed to file a case against us, which is unfortunate," the statement said.
