New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) Condemning the statement by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that party vice-president Rahul Gandhi would not be allowed to turn the city of Gorakhpur into a 'picnic spot', the Congress today said the comments by the CM were an insult to the memory of the children who died in a hospital due to lack of oxygen. Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said,'The statement by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is an insult to the memory of the children who died in the Gorakhpur hospital due to lack of oxygen.' Earlier, reacting to the visit by the Congress vice-president to Gorakhpur to meet the families of the children who died in a hospital due to lack of oxygen, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, in a veiled attack on the Congress vice-president, said the city wasn't a picnic spot. "There's a 'yuvraj' (prince) sitting in Delhi, who doesn't understand the significance of a Swachhta Abhiyan. There's no valid reason why he should be permitted to turn Gorakhpur into his picnic spot," Mr Adityanath said at a public meeting. Referring to the statement by Mr Adityanath, Mr Singhvi said,'He (Yogi Adityanath) is right in saying that Gorakhpur is not a picnic spot. Rather, it is a spot of murder of young children through the callousness, neglect and a lack of accountability of the state administration. 'The Chief Minister, who is also an MP of the area, has, through his statement, insulted the memory of the children.' UNI AR AE 1754
