Lucknow, Feb 18 (UNI) Connectivity and development complement each other and this holds true even more for a land locked region like Uttar Pradesh.
Focusing on connectivity, in the budget proposed for 2020-21 tabled in the state assembly on Tuesday, the government has made a provision of Rs 2,000 crore for Asia's largest Noida International Greenfield Airport being built at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar.
A provision of Rs 500 crore has been made for the proposed airport in Ayodhya and Rs 92.50 crore for the regional connectivity scheme. Moreover, a provision of Rs 2,000 crore has also been made for the proposed 637-km-long Ganga Expressway.
This expressway will connect Meerut with Prayagraj. It will also connect Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli and Pratapgarh. The six-lane expressway can be extended up to eight lanes.
In the Budget, construction of Ballia Link Expressway and Gorakhpur Link Expressway to connect Ballia and Gorakhpur with Purvanchal Expressway was also announced.
Conversion of all the one-lane roads into two-lanes with a pavement as per the requirement, was proposed in the Budget. A provision of Rs 2,529 crore has also been made for the construction of bridges.
The Budget also provides Rs 2,305 crore for construction, widening and strengthening of rural roads, Rs 1,500 crore for state road fund, Rs 3,524 crore for the maintenance of over two lakh kilometres of roads of PWD and Rs 830 crore for the road construction works under the proposed UP Core Road Network Project with the help of World Bank.
The budget also provides Rs 755 crore for the construction of the road under the proposed UP Main District Development Project with the help of Asian Development Bank, Rs 300 crore for Purvanchal fund and Rs 210 crore for Bundelkhand under special area programme to further accelerate the development of Purvanchal and Bundelkhand.
A provision of Rs 2,080 crore under the Central Road Fund Scheme, Rs 170 crore for by-pass, ring road, flyover in cities have also been made in the Budget.
