UP: 5 killed, 11 injured after explosion in firecracker godown, CM announces ex-gratia

Firozabad (UP), Sep 17 (UNI) At least Five persons were killed, and 11 others were injured in an explosion caused by fire in a firecracker godown in Shikohabad area of Firozabad district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Tuesday.
Police sources said that the incident took place in Naushera village on Monday night when the explosion took place in a firecracker godown of Bhura Khan in a rented house. "Several houses in the vicinity were damaged in the explosion and several people were buried under the debris," they said.
Police sources said that District Magistrate Ramesh Ranjan along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Saurabh Dixit and other officers reached the spot after getting the information and launched rescue and relief operation. "The injured were admitted to the district and Shikohabad hospitals," they said.
Police sources said that Meera devi (52), her sons Aman (20), neighbour's daughter Ikchha (4) and son Ahbinav (2) were killed in the incident.
In-charge of Shikohabad police station Pradeep Kumar said that one more injured succumbed to injuries on Tuesday after which the toll has increased to five. He said that around a dozen houses collapsed in the incident.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the accident that took place at the firecracker warehouse in Shikohabad area of Firozabad district. He has directed the district administration to immediately send the injured to the hospital and to provide them proper treatment. Along with this, he also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Yogi has directed the district administration to immediately distribute ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed in the Firozabad accident.
