Prayagraj, Sep 21(UNI)An 18 member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted on the instructions of Chief Ministet Yogi Adityanath to investigate the death of Mahant Narendra Giri, President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad and Secretary of Niranjani Akhara here on Tuesday.

Prayagraj DIG Sarvasresth Tripathi has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of Deputy SP Ajit Singh Chauhan.

Other members of the SIT are DSP Astha Jaiswal, Inspectors Mahesh Singh, Sanjay Dubey, Virendra Kumar Sonkar and Sanjay Singh. The team has three women members along with 3 Sub- inspectors, 4 head constables and 5 constables.

On Tuesday, CM Yogi Adityanath paid tributes to the Mahant after paying his last respects at Shri Math Baghambri Gaddi in Prayagraj. After this, he said that no stone will be left unturned in the investigation in the death of the great saint.

At present, along with Swami Anand Giri, six other people have been detained and their interrogation is going on.

The police have already taken into custody the deceased Mahant's disciples, yoga guru Anand Giri, Aadya Tiwari, the chief priest of the Hanuman temple at Sangam, and his son Sandeep Tiwari.

DIG Tripathi said that if required, police will also conduct lie detector test of some of the people.

Sources here said police is also investigating two videos related to the death of Mahant Narendra Giri.

There is talk that Mahant Narendra Giri was being blackmailed through one of these videos. This video has also been mentioned in the alleged suicide note of Mahant Narendra Giri. The second video was made by Mahant Narendra Giri himself, in which he has narrated about the conspiracy against him.

An FIR has been registered in the George Town police station in connection with the suspicious death of Mahant Narendra Giri. In the report filed by Amar Giri Pawan Maharaj, a disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri, Mahant's disciple Anand Giri has been made the chief suspect in the case.

According to the FIR, Mahant Narendra Giri went to the Baghambri Gaddi's room on Monday at around 12:30 pm for rest after a meal. He usually had tea at three o'clock in the afternoon, but that day he skipped it and had said that he would inform himself when he would like to have it. After this, there was no response from the Mahant till 5 pm after which the doors of his room were broken open and they found his dead body hanging from the fan and the police was informed.
