Unseasonal snowfall in HP: 3994 tourists, locals evacuated during 5-day rescue operation

Shimla, Sep 29 (UNI) As many as 3994 tourists and locals, who had been stranded due to unseasonal snowfall in Chamba and Lahaul Spiti districts, were evacuated to safety in a five-day rescue operation, considered one of the state government's biggest disaster rescue operations, till date.
According to Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue and State Disaster Management Authority Munsiha Nanda, the unprecedented snowfall in Lahaul Spiti, Chamba and Kullu districts had stranded thousands of tourists and locals, since September 22 to 24.
She said 2509 persons were evacuated or shifted through the upcoming all-weather Rohtang Tunnel, which helped the SDMA officials to reach out to the stranded and rescue them.
