New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) Australia’s number one young university, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), is making a major investment in building its cohort of undergraduate students from India, with significant expansion of its Delhi based operations. New appointments will double the UTS representation in India to ten personnel in the immediate term, with further appointments planned to follow. UTS has had dedicated staff in India for over seven years’ and has developed strong ties within the Indian tertiary sector, at both research and postgraduate levels. “Further investment in a liaison office in Delhi signifies the next stage of our engagement with India. I am always impressed by the calibre of our Indian students who are highly valued members of our international student community. I hope to welcome many more to UTS in the future,” says Professor William Purcell, UTS Deputy Vice-Chancellor. The expanded UTS presence is being spearheaded by its pathway arm, UTS:INSEARCH, which has a depth of experience in understanding the aspirations of undergraduates and their parents. Talking about his vision for the new operations, UTS:INSEARCH Managing Director, Alex Murphy says, “More Indian students are choosing to study in Australia than ever before, the expansion of our India operations will allow us to better support students, parents and our partners here in India and build awareness of UTS as a dynamic and modern university for undergraduate studies." The new India liaison office will be headed by Gitesh Agarwal who holds a Master of Business Administration from Australia. Gitesh served as Trade and Investment Advisor at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and has held senior management positions across a number of industry sectors. “I know first-hand what a valuable experience studying in Australia offers, I’m excited about the prospect of sharing my insights and supporting bright, ambitious students who aspire to study at UTS.” says Mr Agarwal. UTS has developed research linkages through Key Technology Partnerships with five universities across India including; the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore; The Energy and Research Institute (TERI), New Delhi; Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai; Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai.
