United Nations, Mar 30(UNI) UN General Assembly President Tijjani Muhammad-Bande has called for removal of sanctions against developing countries struggling against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sputnik quoted Bande calling for ending sanctions as they create more suffering for the poor "I think the UN call is very clear as to removing sanctions, especially sanctions that make it impossible for those in the most vulnerable situations, [related to health], I think this is what is important. This was also a call made by the Secretary-General and the Security Council itself," he said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres last week urged the leaders of G20 countries to waive sanctions imposed on nations affected by the pandemic to ensure that their citizens have access to food and health services.
