Cuttack, Feb 20 (UNI) A much needed 167-run unbeaten partnership between Anustup Majumdar ( 136 batting ) and Shahbaz Ahmed ( 82 not out) took Bengal to a respectable 308 for loss of 6 wickets on Day 1 in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final play at DRIEMS ground here today.

Sent to bating the visiting side in the first session was 46/4 in 15 overs and at lunch, it has 11/5 in 32 overs when top-order batsmen fell cheaply by the disciplined blowing from the host. Openers Kaushik Ghosh 9, captain Abhimanyu Easwaran 7, Abhishekh Raman 1, Arnab Nandy and Manoj Tiwary scored only 4. After wicketkeeper-batsman Sreevats Goswamy fell to 34 the Bengal camp was looped shaky when the scoreboard read 141 for loss of 6 wickets.
