UN Human Rights experts condemn Belarus for using death penalty despite requests to halt

Moscow, Dec 12 (Sputnik) UN human rights experts on Wednesday denounced Belarus for its continued use of capital punishment despite the UN rights committee's requests to halt the practice, the Office of the United Nations High (OHCHR) said.
"UN human rights experts today condemned Belarus for its continued use of the death penalty, following local news reports that the country, in defiance of the Human Rights Committee’s requests for a stay, had executed three people: Aleksei Mikhalenya, Semyon Berezhnoi and Igor Gershankov," the statement read.
The OHCHR cited media reports saying that the three men had been executed while their complaints were still under consideration by the UN Human Rights Committee.
