UN envoy hopes Berlin conference ends ongoing conflict in Libya

Tripoli, Jan 16 (UNI) The UN Special Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame on Wednesday expressed hope that the upcoming Berlin conference on Libya would end the ongoing armed conflict in and around the capital Tripoli and allow internally displaced civilians to safely return to their homes.
Salame made his remarks during a visit to a local school in Tripoli that is used as a temporary shelter for civilians displaced by the ongoing fighting.
"Stressing the readiness of the UN humanitarian agencies to intensify efforts to provide necessary support to IDPs, Salame hoped that the Berlin conference will lead to a lasting ceasefire, allowing a safe return of all IDPs to their homes," the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said.
