Kozhikode, Jul 5 (UNI) Hurdling over the difficult times of Coronavirus pandemic, a group of children in Vatakara near here were turning opportunities into possibilities by exploring their intense desire in space studies by virtually running the UL Space Club, an initiative of the ULCCS Education, the innovative division of the Uralungal Labour CoOperative Society (ULCCS)
Due to the pandemic, the UL Space Club had to cancel its "space camp" proposed in February. But
the executive team of the UL Space Club decided to conduct a Webinar series online.
"The plan was to deliver fundamental knowledge from various scientific disciplines to students directly from eminent persons by arranging lectures on Saturdays. The sixth episode completed last week', a member of the club, Varun K said on Saturday.
UL Space Club is an initiative of the Vagbhatananda Edu Project powered by ULCCS Education to trace out the spark of interest of the students in Space Science and Space Related Activities.
“We are actually nurturing or mentoring a group of young intellectuals who have a passion for space studies. The webinars provide a space to interact with eminent personalities of this field easily", he said.
Research experiences with the Scholars help to nurture a passion for the sciences which might influence their ultimate career path.
"More webinars on regional languages could improve the knowledge and interest of the students in the field', former Director of ISRO and the captain of the ship of UL Space Club said.
"All the children who have an interest in space science would first ask a question about the black hole. But they don't know how to reach the answer. UL Space Club mentors or provide scientific food for such minds. This is one of the first initiatives in India to develop scientific temper among students by allowing them to question, observe, test hypothesize, analyse, and communicate in science," mentor of the club Shajil UK said.
UL Foundation, in association with Cindrebay Nurture, had initiated the thought of a Space Club. The concept of the space club evolved when a Space Camp was conducted in UL Cyber Park in 2016.
A selected team of 38 students from an entrance examination and the space camp forms the UL Space Club.
Retired deputy director ISRO K Jayaram, Assistant Professor Calicut University Shaheen Thayyil, Assistant Professor, NIT Calicut Dr A Sujith, HST GGHSS Balussery and Surendran Punnasseri, Astro-columnist Shajil UK make the central nervous system of the club.
