Uber partners with Delhi airport to sanitise cars before every trip to enhance rider & driver safety

Gurgaon, Jun 2 (UNI) Uber on Tuesday announced it has set up a sanitisation hub at the Delhi Airport in partnership with Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) to disinfect cars before every single trip, using state-of-the-art equipment and disinfectants, for setting exemplary safety standards for riders and drivers.

The sanitisation hub in Delhi has been set up at the Multi Level Car Parking (MLCP) of Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport, currently the only functional terminal in Delhi. Uber has made similar arrangements at the Bangalore and Hyderabad airports as well.

Sharing details of the partnership, Pavan Vaish, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said, ''As cities begin to reopen and people start moving again, Uber is committed to providing exemplary safety standards for its riders and drivers. During the past few months, we have constantly improved our safety procedures and product experience to prevent contamination risks and to reinforce a deeply embedded bond of trust with riders and drivers.''

''We believe our partnership with DIAL to set up sanitisation hubs will be critical in providing our riders and drivers much needed safety assurances and peace of mind,'' Vaish added.

Besides vehicle sanitisation before every trip, Uber’s partnership with DIAL includes decontamination of Uber’s pick up zone, according to a statement here.
The sanitisation hubs will offer contactless service, digital and contactless payment options and include mandatory face masks for drivers and riders. Disinfected car doors and boots will be opened only by drivers to minimise rider contact. Riders, in turn, will also be expected to handle their own luggage.

Commenting on this partnership, Delhi International Airport Ltd CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said, ''It is our collective responsibility to ensure the safety of passengers traveling by air and during ground transfers. We have taken a slew of measures at the airport to make sure the processes are contact-free, and that the highest safety standards are maintained. It is extremely heartening to see last-mile cab aggregators ensuring the first and last legs of travel are safe, too.''

Uber’s tech and safety teams have been working overtime to build a new product experience for protecting everyone, every time they use Uber.
The aggregator has launched a comprehensive set of safety measures, such as the Go Online Checklist and a mandatory mask policy for both riders and drivers, pre-trip mask verification selfies for drivers, mandatory driver education around Covid-19 related safety protocols, and an updated cancellation policy where both riders and driver can cancel trips if they don’t feel safe.
Complementing these measures, Uber is distributing over 3 million masks and 200,000 bottles of disinfectants and sanitisers to its driver partners, free of cost.
